In 2024, an estiamted 5.3 animals entered a shelter in the US alone. Many animals sit in small kennels or runs while awaiting for their perfect home. Fostering is a crucial aspect of animal rescue. It allows more space to be freed up in the shelter as well as provides animals a safe environment to recover and learn what love is
Stephanie Magram first started fostering in the island of St. Kitts. With no physical shelter on the island, the homeless and unwanted pets of St. Kitts heavily relied on fosters, which were often veterinary students. Stephanie adopted her "heart" dog Chesney her first semester of vet school from a foster, and that inspired her to start on her foster journey on the island. She did not expect this journey to continue well after she graduated.
One of Stephanie Magram's most memorable fosters was a sweet pitbull named Dior. She had come into her vet clinic with a fractured pelvis. She was treated and the owners took her home. Stephane was scrolling through facebook one day and saw a picture of her stating that she was found abandoned and taken to the local shelter. Stephanie went to visit her the next day and took her home to foster. She is now living an amazing life with her FurEver family and young boy to play with.
